General Hospital alum Anthony Geary, best known for his legendary portrayal of Luke Spencer, has passed away at the age of 78, according to a report from TV Insider.
Geary, an eight-time Daytime Emmy Award winner, died on December 14 due to complications from a scheduled operation he underwent three days earlier.
In a statement to the press, Rachel Schwartz, Head of Daytime/ Children’s & Family Emmys, said, “Our condolences are with our friends at ‘General Hospital’ on the passing of Anthony Geary, who won a record-breaking 8 Emmys in the Lead Actor category. As one half of the power couple ‘Luke and Laura,’ their popularity brought daytime television into the zeitgeist and created one of the genre’s most beloved super-couples. Our sympathies are with his family, colleagues, and loved ones.”

Born on May 29, 1947, in Coalville, Utah, Geary became one of daytime television’s most recognizable and celebrated stars.
Before becoming a soap icon, Geary built an extensive résumé in primetime television. His early appearances included roles on Room 222, All in the Family, The Mod Squad, Mannix, Marcus Welby, M.D., The Streets of San Francisco, The Partridge Family, and Barnaby Jones.
Geary’s first daytime role came on the NBC soap Bright Promise, where he appeared from 1971 to 1972. He later portrayed George Curtis on The Young and the Restless from August to November 1973.
