After making his debut as Damian Kane back in February, Jermaine Rivers has officially wrapped up his run on The Young and the Restless. In a surprising twist, Damian met an untimely end in the Monday, July 14th episode.
After the episode aired, Rivers took to Instagram to share a heartfelt video message reflecting on his time with the show. In the caption, he wrote:
Feeling Extremely Grateful for the opportunity to bring Damian Kane to life. Thank you to Josh Griffith and the rest of the Producers at Y&R and CBS for giving me this amazing opportunity to be a part of such an iconic show. Huge Thank You to fans who tuned in and showed love. You guys are Awesome!!! The Work Continues.
In the video, Rivers got candid about the experience, saying:
“Woo! What an episode! At least for now, Damian Kane has met an untimely demise. You know, we shot this back in May, and I actually knew about Damien Kane’s… what his fate was before we even went to France.
He went on to thank head writer and executive producer Josh Griffith for the opportunity.
It’s been an honor to, to not only be a part of the cast, but to bring a character like Damian to life. You know, the last seven, eight months,
I got to play a multitude of emotions, to really flesh out who this person was with all his complexities, with his relationship, with his mom, his brother, his half brother, his friends, best friend, and potential love interests. And we got to go on a ride and really play into these moments, truthfully.
Rivers also acknowledged the mixed fan reactions early on, explaining that Damian’s mysterious and arrogant persona was very much intentional:
As an actor, my prime objective is to do three things, to be of service to the script, to the text that’s actually written for the character and, and his relationships with other characters on the show, to be a service to my fellow actors, to not phone anything and to really engage and, and be honest and truthful and make a genuine
connection, bring out the best of that person that’s in front of me or around me, to be of service to the overall story.
He gave special thanks to casting director Greg Salmon for believing in him:
Thank you to Greg Salman, head of casting for the Young and the Restless.
Looking ahead, Rivers teased that he’s already working on new projects:
There’s a whole lot of stuff that, that has my name on it right now. And, and there are other projects that I’m currently attached to. And I’m, I’m physically, mentally getting ready to do something super fun, in the Sci-Fi genre.
Were you sad to see Jermaine Rivers go? We sure were — we were really rooting for Lily and Damian to become something more! (Photo: CBS/Bill Inoshita)
