Here’s some major casting news to put a smile on your face. ABC has confirmed that All My Children alum Jonathan Bennett is officially headed to Port Charles. Bennett is set to join the cast of General Hospital this spring, stepping into the role of Joe Fitzpatrick.
While the show is keeping his character’s specific motives under lock and key, we won’t have to wait long to see him in action. Bennett is scheduled to make his debut this May.
Bennett Back to the Genre
For Bennett, this is a return to the genre that basically launched his career. Long before he was in Mean Girls or hosting Cake Wars, he was a soap star. After being discovered by an agent while sitting on a train in New York, the Ohio native landed the iconic role of J.R. Chandler on All My Children and was briefly on the show.
Now, decades later, he’s back on the ABC daytime canvas. Executive Producer Frank Valentini said in a statement, “We’re so excited to have Jonathan joining our cast. He’s a tremendous talent and will be a fantastic addition to GH.”
From Mean Girls to Daytime Drama: Who is Jonathan Bennett?
Bennett is widely known for his breakout role as Aaron Samuels in the 2004 film Mean Girls. Over the years, he’s built a strong presence on Hallmark Channel with a number of fan-favorite holiday movies. He’s also hosted popular Food Network shows like Cake Wars and Halloween Wars.
He was born in Rossford, Ohio, and headed to New York after graduating from Otterbein’s theater program to pursue acting. Interestingly, he was discovered by an agent while sitting on a train. Just six months later, he landed his role on All My Children.
Since then, his career has stayed busy. He’s appeared in projects like Cheaper by the Dozen 2 alongside Steve Martin and Lovewrecked with Amanda Bynes. He also stepped into the role of Van Wilder in Van Wilder: Freshman Year, taking over from Ryan Reynolds.
Now, he’s heading to Port Charles, and it’ll be interesting to see how Joe Fitzpatrick fits into the mix.
