Happy New Year!
Sorry, we are getting the POW a little late. Last week had some high moments from all our soaps which is a great way to kick off the new year. We are hoping this is a trend. Our delay was long enough so let’s crown our first Performer of the Week in 2019. But you know we will take a look at our week in soaps first.
Genoa City completed their Holiday celebration with a posh celebration at Devon’s penthouse with the younger of The Young and the Restless. Lola was still mad because Kyle gave her a $5,000 purse (still can’t believe we have to type this lol) and laid a kiss on Fen and not Kyle at midnight. But later on during the week, our Kola was back together. Maybe Kyle should have celebrated by buying her a purse from Target? Did y’all see that pic of Beyonce shopping at Target??? Nick, Nate and Victor were arrested after the runway standoff for kidnapping Nikki. But the case was dead on arrival when Nikki let Christine know she was prepared to testify that she asked Victor to take her out the hospital. So, after Rey and Christine wiped egg off their faces they decided to scorch the earth and arrest Victor for JT’s murder. Now Rey is new to this game but Christine knows better.
Reed confessed to Victoria Friday before last that he was the one that hit Nikki. Although we were very disappointed we didn’t get anything further from that conversation we loved the other arc related scenes with Billy/Victoria, Billy/Reed, Charlie/Cane, Charlie/Reed/Nikki and of course Cane/Victoria. Everybody has their own opinions and feelings on Vane and “the kiss”. All we will say is that the kiss was hot. But even if you aren’t team Vane, at least Y&R has viewers engaged and talking. After the year they had, they needed buzz. We want to give a big thumbs up to the dialogue writers. The parallels with the Reed/Charlie/Nikki’s accident to Hillary and Delia were poignant. And we are giving two very enthusiastic thumbs up for the pre-kiss dialogue with Vane. They touched on everything; Brash and Sassy, Juliet, Cane trying to cover up Lily running the red light in the accident with Hillary, Reed wanting Mattie to lie about being at the Underground the night of the fire, Victoria called Cane weak and cowardly, Cane called Victoria cold and empty and told her that she runs every man away. Whew. They hit it all.
Jill minus Colin (they are on a break) whisked into town. Yea! Cane confessed “the kiss” to Jill but omitted the proper noun. Jill implored to Cane not tell Lily. “The Kiss-es”(Victoria kissed Cane and Billy on the same day) sent Victoria to her counselor’s couch. Personally, I have no idea why. Kissing Cane and Billy sound good to me. Villy had a heart to heart and admitted they still have feelings for one another. But Victoria didn’t think she could trust her heart with anyone. And Victoria said they needed to be sure because they didn’t want to disappoint the kids. No problem. Victoria just let Faith tell cousin Katie and Johnny how she deals with all of her parents’ make-ups and break-ups. Our Faith is a pro.
In Port Charles, Dr. O made herself comfortable being back at home. She thanked Valentin for convincing Peter to change his testimony and told Valentin she had made arrangements for his secret to come out about Sasha if he had any plans that she would meet with an unfortunate accident. Nina observed the interaction from afar with Valentin and Dr. O and wondered what “that” was all about. As Maxie correctly responded “nothing good.” Lulu gave Ava a heads up that “Kevin” wasn’t acting like himself and warned Ava that Kevin had a psychotic break in the past. Well, I guess it’s good news that it’s not Kevin so no worries there. Curtis and Jordan’s investigation into the murders kicked up some notches.
Julian broke up with Kim after seeing her kiss Drew. He told Kim he moved on by sleeping with someone else. It appeared he just told Kim that and it’s not the truth. But this is GH so who knows what recton flashbacks maybe down the road. Kristina moved out of Sam’s and into the group house with Daisy. Jasam dropped by to check out the place and surprise surprise Hank (from Drew’s past at least that is what we are being told) is also known now as Shiloh the group leader. Jasam interrogated Shiloh who threw a few verbal jabs himself. It was a testy interaction between Kristina, Jasam and Hank/Shiloh. GH has our interest with this one. Let’s see if they can keep it.
General Hospital paid a loving and emotional tribute to Susan Brown who played Gail Baldwin on General Hospital and Port Charles off and on from 1977 to 2003. Lucy, Scotty and Monica all shared fond memories of Gail when news spread of her passing. Susan Brown passed away on August 31, 2018. Our thoughts remain with her family, friends and loved ones. General Hospital aired an encore episode on Monday, December 31, 2018. Tuesday Holiday programming aired on ABC.
Gabi endured Rafe and Hope’s wrath and disappointment regarding what she did. In what we hope was the final face-off between Gabi and Abby, in relation to this story arc, Abby so eloquently stated that it’s time to move on. In the vein of doing so and so that Ari won’t have a mother in jail, Abby decided not to press charges against Gabi. Chabby’s air won’t be cleared as fast. They argued over Abby’s decision not to press charges and of course that Chad didn’t believe her. If Chabby is riding off into the sunset soon they have a lot of work to do, stat. Hope busted up our #cin make out session tattling to Ciara that Ben kidnapped Gabi for Stefan. Sigh. Sigh. Sigh.
Eve Donovan swung into Salem on her wrecking ball and read anyone who would dare cross her. #JackisBack and waltzed into Doug’s Place. So to say this was about the 1,000,000 resurrections in Salem everyone did an outstanding job acting surprised that another person had arisen. We learned later in the week that Xander brought an amnesiac Jack to Eve in exchange for something that we don’t know exactly what it is other than it’s on a flash drive. Regardless Xander was doing gawds’ work. Jack is back and all is right in the soap world. By Friday, Eve was making a move on Jack and although Kassie and Matthew have chemistry, Jack and Jennifer (just those words make me feel young again regardless of what my gray hairs and my scale says) will always have our hearts. And let me just say that Matthew Ashford still looks delicious. It looked like he had been off screen for six days, not six years. Him and our Honorable Mention this week, Melissa Reeves, fell right instep.
Melissa Reeves y’all! We were elated to see our Missy shine. Newbie Days watchers got to see how a daytime icon became one. Missy gave us everything we could have wanted on Monday when Jack walked back into our lives. But please allow us to fast forward to later on during the week when Jennifer went to the Salem Inn to lay claim on her man. She took Jack on a trip down memory lane beaming at the memories. When Jennifer said to Jack; “You were the love of my life. I have never loved anyone the way I loved you, the way I love” and they kissed; we melted. Just in case you were wondering Melissa Reeves can still command and demand the screen. We could hardly breathe. We have been waiting for this. Take your seat back on the throne QUEEN Melissa. Yas Missy Yas!
The short week in L.A focused on Hope going into labor, Liam and Brooke, Ridge and Bill being concerned. Without question, Annika Noelle is our Performer of the Week! Annika almost took us out. Anyone who has ever thought about having a child, who wanted a child, had a child, lost a child, anyone with a pulse had to weep for and with Hope. We were frantic with Hope when her water broke. We were on edge with her being in an unfamiliar place and clinic with no electricity with an unfamiliar doctor. Listen when Liam told a gleeful expectant Hope (who was waiting to see her newborn baby) that baby Hope didn’t make it; Annika elevated to Daytime Emmy status right before our eyes. Her denial was so real and her hysteria so raw….we know it was reel but Annika made it feel real. Gut-wrenching.
Oh yeah, ICYMI you need to catch up, Annika Noelle is Hope Logan Spencer now.
Standing ovation! So good Ms. Noelle!

Performer of the Week: B&B’s Annika Noelle!
