Hola! Hope everyone is doing fabulous. A lot happened on our soaps last week. So, I won’t waste any needless keystrokes or time. Let’s just get to it. Let’s recap last week and crown our Performers.
The Young and the Restless
Nikki poured her alcohol down the drain but was still on edge at the ranch alone. She fired a shot at a shadow. Good thing she was a bad shot because it was Victor home from jail with an ankle bracelet. Last week finally, we had Newmans acting like Newmans. Victor and Nick know Nikki killed JT to save Victoria. They don’t know about Phyllis and Sharon’s involvement. However, Phyllis rightfully so was concerned that the Newmans were closing ranks and would turn on her and Sharon. It’s not out of the realm of possibility. That’s what the Newmans do. We are just happy that we have the Newmans being written like the Newmans. Someone has a spy cam at the Newman ranch. Reed left Genoa City and again we have an idea why he was written out.
Fen’s new single was a hit and trended. We now are trying to figure out why Ana is so opposed to everyone knowing she wrote the song. Why? Kerry has a secret and a syringe. Is this a Maya from Bold 2.0? Mia and Arturo were keeping hush about what happened between them. Neil was back for a visit.
Cane dropped by unannounced to see Lily on the heels of his first kiss with Victoria and Lily’s latest letter. Lily was upset because Cane wanted her to skip her first class as a GED instructor. Cane was upset because he felt Lily’s prison life was becoming more important than her family. This storyline is realistic and we are glad at least in some part it’s being seen on screen. We can see the rift, space and distance developing between Cane and Lily. Phyllis couldn’t take seeing Billy and Victoria together. She told Victoria to enjoy being second choice because Billy asked her to get back together first.
Cane came to Victoria’s to get his scarf he forgot (leaving something behind is the oldest trick in the book). Victoria stopped him from leaving and Vane shared another “to hell with it all” kiss. Billy walked in and we had soapy messy drama in Genoa City! There is a soap gawd. Billy let Cane have it. Billy tried to let Victoria off the hook saying he understood that she got caught up after what Phyllis said. But Victoria quickly corrected him, it wasn’t the fist time. Guilt-ridden Cane blabbered all to brother in law Devon who promptly told Cane there was no way he was getting to Lily on his private jet, Amtrak, car or even the Mega Bus. Cane wasn’t going to dump all on his sister just to ease his cheating conscious. No sir. Well, Billy gassed up the Abbot jet because our Friday Cliffhanger was Billy asking to see Lily.
The Bold and the Beautiful
Hope continued to mourn Beth and her loved ones continued to do all that they could to try and be supportive. Sally got the wrath of Hope’s pain when she bought Hope a puppy to help. Hope felt bad at her response and they hugged it out. Will and Bill had some of our favorite scenes of the week as father and son discussed money, capitalism, girls and women. Watch out. Will looked like he might be a chip off the old Bill block. Will got Bill an invitation to the house for a family dinner. Will was very focused on Katie, Bill, himself and their family. We assumed these scenes laid the foundation of Thorne’s exit storyline.
Dr. Reese’s faux baby momma of “baby X” met Taylor. She told Taylor all her fake tales about “her baby”, the baby’s daddy, why she wanted her baby adopted and how she knew Dr. Reese. Taylor sprinted home and told Steffy that soap fate had intervened and Kelly could have her own Phoebe after all. Steffy was cautious but interested and wanted to talk to Liam first. Liam gave her his blessing and even agreed to meet the baby and the momma (not too sure about that one). We learned that the faux baby momma was actually one of Dr. Reese’s favorite crap dealers. And it looked like she and Dr. Reese have/had something going on.
Days of Our Lives
Salem’s primary theme last week was couples. Let’s see if we can try and recap it all. Sarah and Eric started the week almost kissing. Rex stopped them when he showed up at Eric’s apartment looking for a place to crash. Rex was back and determined to win Sarah back. It was clear Sarah isn’t over Rex. Rex asked Eric to help him win Sarah back. Yet, the week ended with Sarah and Eric kissing. We had a literal run-in with Rex and Chloe that left us wondering is that a possible pairing on the horizon?
Sarah caught Xander’s eye. Sarah appeared not as impressed with Xander as he was with her (not yet). But on the other hand, Shelia was hypnotized by Xander’s looks, charm and biceps and unknowingly let Xander erase the footage of him shooting Marlena when he posed as John Black. Somehow Shelia managed to get to keep the Sade tickets after her big screw up. Leo’s offer still stood to give Xander the goods on Sonny if Xander would let Leo give him something “stiff”. Xander accepted.
Jack and Jennifer were about to kiss but JJ for whatever reason told Eve Jack and Jennifer were together. Eve stopped that. Jack told Jennifer he was leaving and that he only had come for the money anyway. Low blow Jack. Chabby kissed after Chad “moved” Abby when he organized the 10K Deveraux Dinner. But she pulled back. Abby wasn’t ready yet but hoped to be one day. Rope argued over Ted, the fact that Stefan was free and that Hope was more concerned with Ben than getting justice for Gabi. But that was only a pre-game warm-up. The real action started when Rafe told Hope that he was going to help out Sami. EJ was having a tough recovery and even though Susan and Lucas were there, Sami needed help especially with Johnny. Our Fancy Face was in tears. On the reel, Rafe sounded crazy. On the real not sure why Days wrote this. Is there a meaning behind it? If not, seemed kinda out there.
We had other happenings in Salem other than coupling. JJ figured out Haley and Melinda were related. Even though Jarlena was horrified to hear Xander was alive and free; they still didn’t let it stop them from helping out as they always do. John agreed to help Wilson find out information about Leo’s mom. And Marlena counseled Haley. Melinda took Abe to task that Hope and the Salem PD were incompetent. Unfortunately, no lies were told. Sigh. Chad and Gabi reached an agreement for Ari’s sake to tear up Gabi Chic’s agreement with DiMera Enterprises. But Stefan’s freedom (it was the engineer that used the bionic eye and not Stefan) caused the Board to put a moratorium on all business activities until a decision was made on who would be in charge of DiMera. Stefan told Gabi that he planned on keeping good on his word to make her pay. Gabi armed with a poker didn’t flinch. She told him that if he continued to threaten her and her daughter’s livelihood, he was the one that would be sorry.
General Hospital
Dr. O tried to warn Nina about Valentin and Sasha. Well, not really because she didn’t tell Nina what she knew. But still Nina was adamant that she knew everything she needed to know about her “daughter” (that she has known for all two minutes.) And about Valentin although he has done nothing but lie lie lie. Valentin figured he needed to get Nina to the altar quick and proposed. Jasam separately filled Alexis and Sonny in on Shiloh’s connection to Sam. Kristina believes in Shiloh and thought everyone was being paranoid. Sam attended a seminar and she like us, was convinced more than ever that Shiloh is nothing but bad news.
They had our Queen Anna looking like Bird Box before she could see again. Her blindness was caused by a mysterious virus. We are hoping this mysterious virus storyline is executed better than Tracy Quartermaine’s. We weren’t feeling the Aiden and Franco make cookies spoiler. But it turned out to be a very good episode addressing the difficulties and the delicate balance for parents of letting their kids be whomever they are (Aiden is a baker!) while trying to shield them from those who ridicule them for it.
We enjoyed Joss, Cam and Oscar as they planned with Oscar the beginning of the ending of his life. Those were good scenes. Scotty, Monica and Laura gathered for Gail’s will. Alexis (the executor) stated Gail’s estate would make a HUGE endowment to GH but certain provisions had to be met. What were they? Stay tuned. Lucy recited the good, the bad and the ugly at her book party launch for her book; Travel Guide to Port Charles. Madame Mayor Laura Webber (she took off her wedding ring) was sworn in. Kevin wanted to take Ava away from Port Charles. But Ava wouldn’t agree until Sonny agreed to allow Avery to have extended visits. You know what Sonny’s response was. So, Ryan added him and Carly to “the list.” Lulu’s investigative persistence got Ryan closing the door on her for the Friday Cliffhanger.
Performers of the Week!
Our Honorable Mention Performer is Greg Vaughn of Days of our Lives! What a week for Eric. First, he was stuck in between Sarah and Rex. But when Sarah told him Xander was alive….you witnessed Eric’s rage that couldn’t be contained. He hemmed up Xander and held a knife to his throat. Sarah talked him down. But Eric left Xander with a nice shiner. Eric’s only comfort, that Xander was alive and Nicole wasn’t, was that Xander would rot in jail. So, when he found out Xander was free, Eli had to personally escort him home to make sure he didn’t do something he would regret. But would he really regret it? Lol. We don’t know what Greg was thinking during those scenes. But Eric’s rage, anger, affliction and struggle to do the right thing when he really wanted to slit Xander’s throat was mesmerizing. Greg/Eric literally shook with rage. Greg, you dug deep and we couldn’t take our eyes off you! Great job!
Our Performer of the Week is Gina Tognoni of the Young and the Restless! Phyllis was on a tear! She beat Nick down until he finally admitted that Nikki told him she had killed JT. When the Murder Club met, she let Victoria and Nikki know she wasn’t going down. And if they had any thoughts of double-crossing her; they had been warned. She wasn’t having none of it. She told Sharon she should also keep her eyes on the Newmans. Phyllis crashed Villy’s meal and let Victoria know she was second choice. Gina gave us full Phyllis, brash, sassy, take no prisoners, leaving bodies in her wake, Phyllis. This storyline is headed to its conclusion and we suspect Gina/Phyllis are just getting started. Well well well done Ms. Tognoni!
