Late night host John Oliver has made it clear he would love to appear on a soap opera. And now the soap world is responding.

During a recent episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Oliver shared his love for the genre and made a passionate plea for a “juicy” cameo role. One thing he made clear is that he does not want to play himself.

He joked that he would happily take on a dramatic role if a show was willing to write one for him.

“To all the soap operas out there, let me say this: I am officially offering myself to you. Write me a role, and I’ll be on your set so fast.”

Oliver also admitted that he is a little jealous of Stephen A. Smith, who has a recurring role on General Hospital as Brick. According to Oliver, if he does land a soap role, he wants a character with a completely ridiculous name.

Stephen A. Smith Responds

Smith has finally responded to Oliver’s request with a playful video message.

“What’s up, John Oliver? How you doing, my man? You know, I recently saw the video. You know, you were doing your show and wanting to be a soap opera star.

Smith continued, “You sure you ready for that? You sure you ready for the commitment that it’s going to take John Oliver because it’s mysterious. It’s mysterious, okay?

He adds, “You got to be willing to be that bad guy. You can’t have the smile on your face all the time. You got to wear that scalp.

Smith says, “You got to be irritating. You got to be all of those things. You got to welcome being disliked because contrary to what you might think about yourself, you’re a very likeable guy. You’re a very, very likeable guy. So you have to understand. You got to be willing to be a bad guy. You got to embrace it. You got to embrace it. You got to love it. You got to love the hate because they end up loving you in the end. Being a soap opera guy is pretty cool. Life’s into the registration. You didn’t do bad though. I’m going to make a call in the General Hospital about you, buddy.”

General Hospital Weighs In

The official General Hospital Instagram account also joined the conversation.

The show responded to Smith’s video by writing, “We may have just the part for him. Our DMs are open.”

That response immediately got fans talking about whether Oliver could actually show up in Port Charles someday.

So what do you think? Would you want to see John Oliver appear on General Hospital? And if he did, what kind of role should he play?
