Susan Walters Brought Every Emotion to the Screen
It was an unforgettable week in Genoa City.
After being held captive by Dr. Laurence Markham, Diane finally made it back home. She was hoping for a long-overdue reunion with Jack and a chance to put the nightmare behind her.
Instead, she walked into another one.
Diane and Kyle arrived at the Abbott mansion only to find Jack stabbed and bleeding on the floor.
Things quickly escalated from there. The cops were called to the property, and a manic Patty claimed it was Diane, not her, who actually stabbed Jack. As Jack was rushed to Memorial Hospital, the police arrested Diane based on Patty’s wild accusations.
Fortunately, Michael stepped in as Diane’s attorney and managed to secure her release. The moment she was free, Diane rushed straight to Jack’s bedside.
But the danger wasn’t over.
After spotting Patty leaving Jack’s room dressed as a nurse, Diane chased after her. Patty retaliated by pulling out a syringe and stabbing Diane in the back, and this put Diane’s own life in jeopardy.
But she lived and finally got her moment to be face-to-face with her husband. Right there, in tears, she told Jack that there is nothing she wants or needs more than to spend the rest of her days on this planet with him.
A Performance That Stood Above the Rest
While the storyline itself has been packed with shocking twists, it was the performances that truly elevated every scene.
Susan Walters was simply outstanding.
She brought every emotion to life. The fear, the heartbreak, the anger, the disbelief, and the determination all felt genuine. Whether Diane was fighting to clear her name, desperately trying to save Jack, or confronting Patty, Walters made every moment count.
She never overplayed a scene. Instead, she taught many how it’s done.
That’s what great daytime acting looks like.
Congratulations to Susan Walters on being named Soap Opera News’ Performer of the Week for July 6-10. It is an honor that is more than deserved.
