The residents of Salem will soon gather this month to say goodbye to the beloved Caroline Brady. Peggy McCay, who originated the role of Caroline back in 1983, passed away in October of 2018.

The sad news of the death of the Brady Matriarch will bring some familiar faces to back to town. Caroline’s grandchildren Sami (Alison Sweeney), Carrie (Christie Clark) and Shawn (Brandon Beemer) are set to return to the show to celebrate Caroline’s life.

Caroline and her husband Shawn came to town in 1983 and opened the Brady Fish Market on the docks of Salem. The market eventually turned into the popular Brady Pub which has employed and housed many Salemites over the years.

Although most of Caroline’s story revolved around her aiding and advising her family, she was at the forefront of one of Days of Our Lives’ most iconic storylines. In 1985, it was revealed, in a shocking fashion, that Caroline’s youngest son, Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) wasn’t really a Brady at all but was the product of an affair that Caroline had with Victor Kiriakis (John Aniston). This storyline caused ripple effects that lasted for years and affected many characters along the way.

Caroline was also involved in other major storylines over the years. She was a victim of the Salem Stalker where she ended up on the island of Melaswen. The story of the death of her husband, Shawn (Frank Parker) in 2008. And when she started to show signs of a degenerative neurological disease that presented like Alzheimer’s. A touching story for which Peggy McCay did a PSA for.

The character of Caroline is often described as stoic, often opinionated, but always loving. She cared deeply for her family and friends and often went the extra mile to protect those she loved. For example, when she made a false confession to protect her daughter Kayla Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) from going to prison for murder and when she went against the devil himself while trying to help Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) who was possessed.

Caroline Brady, the matriarch of one of the core families of Days of Our Lives, spent nearly four decades impacting the lives of Salem. And just as Peggy herself, she will live on through all who loved her. Be sure to watch the tribute special scheduled for sometime this month.
